Math

We are now working on telling time. Right now we are working on reviewing telling time to the hour and half hour. We will review telling time to the quarter hour and then move on to telling time to to the nearest five minutes. Knowing the units of time (seconds minutes hours days month years) and how they relate to each other is a big focus in grade 3. Example problems would be If John reads for 30 minutes each night before bed after 2 weeks has he read for more than 6 hours?

We are working on multiplication and 2D and 3D Geometry. practicing times tables at home would be helpful.

We are currently working on adding and subtracting triple digit numbers with regrouping. We will be moving into adding and subtracting money amounts with decimals. We are also working on problem solving using the four part problem solving method. Students will need to add money amounts up to ten dollars and make change from ten dollars. If you are shopping with your child have them try to figure out how much change they should be getting back. They will also have to figure out how to make different money amounts using a specific number of coins. Extra practice at home is always helpful.

The Grade 3's are still working on adding and subtracting double digits with regrouping. Extra practice with this at home would be helpful. Students are solving math word problems that involve adding and subtracting double digits with regrouping.

We are also working on measuring different things with centimetres and metres. Recently we have started calculating the area and perimeter of different objects. Practice measuring things at home.

We are currently working on representing numbers in a variety of ways. Grade 3's are working into the hundreds and Grade 4's are working into the thousands. Check out some of the games on this cool site. Math Games
